Go beyond a general delivery answer
“Where is my order?” is simple to ask. Answering it may require a payment record, fulfilment information and carrier tracking.
An AI agent could bring those details into the support conversation. With a verified customer and approved access to the order, it can explain what has happened and the next available step.
This article concerns support for a shop’s buyers. Support for members of an ecommerce course involves different requests, such as course or community access.
Check the right status
Paid does not automatically mean shipped. Shipped does not automatically mean delivered. A return request is also different from a completed refund.
Shopify documents separate order, payment, fulfilment and return statuses. That distinction is useful when designing a support workflow, whatever system your shop uses.
The agent should explain the status shown in your official record. If tracking has not updated, it should follow your delivery investigation process instead of inventing an arrival date.
Make returns and payment help clear
For a return, check the order, the applicable policy and the customer’s request. Explain the available options and any information needed to proceed.
Where permitted, the agent could start an approved return process and confirm what was created. Refund decisions or changes that require approval should go to the right person with the relevant context.
For a payment question, check the actual transaction status before recommending another attempt. Customers should not have to risk paying twice to get a useful answer.
Start with your most repeated question
Choose one request, such as delivery tracking. Write a clear process for normal orders, delayed updates and missing records.
Test whether the agent gives accurate answers and completes the steps it is allowed to take. Measure repeat contacts and customer feedback alongside handling time.
A useful workflow leaves the buyer knowing where things stand. That is the result to improve before adding more automation.
